The clock struck 21:21:21, the dawn of the 21st day of the 21st year in the 21st centuary and we’re at a focal point in human history. Making the most of 2021 starts with making the most of 2020, but it’s not too late to start again.

The world understands that many people lost family members and friends last year, in an unusual pattern generated by the pandemic that rocked nations. We know that jobs were lost too and parents have had to double-up efforts to ensure that their children are still getting an education.

Others have slowed their pace of life, binging series and camping indoors until a better year comes around. A golden opportunity presents itself for some of us who have extra time on our hands.

We could complain or hang our heads, but the dull buzz of traffic has dimmed and our minds wonder into a state of clarity. Switch off notifications and social media and one has extended periods of focus time available.

When might life ever hand us this golden nugget again? My opportunity is gaining ground writing a fiction novel, trying to make a tech breakthrough and family time. You might build an app, Coursera your way into a new career or start a business. Maybe your breakthrough is just finding your faith again, inspiring one other person or reflecting on what this all means.

I like to think that we’re in a unique situation and it’s not all doom and gloom. The silence rings around us as if it were the only sound. Yes, there are regrets and failures, but there’s also now to start again.
